I am going to write about the present political situation in my homeland, Italy. Last general elections were held on March 2018 and two populist parties have won. Despite the fact that during the election campaign they had struggled one against the other in a very hard manner, after three months of talks, they have reached an agreement. As a consequence, a new government had been recently created. The most worrying issue is that the new prime minister is promising everything to everybody and I do not understand where they will find the money. In fact, they have claimed to reduce taxes and increase the lower pension. Moreover, they want to set a minimum salary for all citizens irrespective of the fact that people are working or not. In theory, it is a very wise effort but Italy has to comply with the EU rules, and withdrawing from the monetary union will be unaffordable because we will face a huge devaluation, with a consequent significant increase of our debt.
