Dr Arif Alvi will Elect President of Pakistan

Voting for the presidential election will be held in the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies from 10am to 4pm on September 4



DiplomaticCross:The Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Dr Arif Alvi as the presidential candidate. According to the source, PTI chairman Imran Khan has approved Dr. Arif Alvi’s name for the president of the country. There have earlier been reports to nominate Dr Arif Alvi as president. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Saturday confirmed the nomination of party leader Dr. Arif Alvi for the post of president.

The nomination was confirmed by party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Twitter.

Dr. Arif Alvi was elected MNA from NA-247 Karachi by securing 90,907 votes. PTI leader Imran Ismail had also revealed that Dr. Alvi was being considered for the position of new President of Pakistan. Alvi ran for the seat of Provincial Assembly of Sindh as a candidate of PTI from constituency PS-114 (Karachi) in Pakistani general election, 1997, however, remained unsuccessful.

He runs for the seat of Provincial Assembly of Sindh in Pakistani general election, 2002 as a candidate of PTI from constituency PS-90 Karachi-II but was unsuccessful and secured only 1,276 votes. He served as the secretary general of PTI from 2006 to 2013. Alvi was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time in Pakistani general election, 2013 on PTI ticket from

Constituency NA-250. Alvi was the only PTI member to win a National Assembly seat from Sindh in 2013 elections In 2016, he was made the president of PTI Sindh chapter. Born in 1949 and dentist by profession, He was the president of the Asia-Pacific Dental Federation and of the Pakistan Dental Association.

The PTI emerged as the major political party in National, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies in the general election on July 25. It has also the significant presence in Sindh and Balochistan. The number of seats in the national and provincial assemblies that serve as Electoral College in the presidential election puts the PTI in the strong position to get its nominee elected as president of the country.

Days after Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan Takes oath on August 18, the country is scheduled to hold presidential on September 4. The Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Thursday that the nomination papers for the presidential election can be filed with the presiding officers in Islamabad and the federating units by August 27, 12 noon. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted on August 29. Candidature can be withdrawn by 12 noon on August 30. The list of validated candidates will be published the same day at 1pm.
