At least 32 killed, Many injured in Quetta Polling blast

A powerful blast struck Quetta this morning, killing at least 22 people and injuring 28 others. The explosion occurred outside a polling station near Eastern Bypass area. According to sources at the Civil Hospital, it is learned that 22 people have died in the blast while 28 others wounded. They feared that the death toll could increase, as most of the injured were in serious condition. The constituency, where the latest terror attack occurred, is NA-260. DIG Javed Akbar Riaz said the Bomb Disposal Squad was collecting evidence to ascertain nature of the blast. He said the blast was an attempt to sabotage the election. A state of emergency has been declared in nearby hospitals where injured have been moved. Pakistan set for hotly contested elections; 106m voters head to polls today

Pakistan’s 11th general election is scheduled to be held today, with 105.95 million voters expected to head to the polls to vote in their respective constituencies across the country. The battle is set to come down to three parties: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). Voting begins at 8am, with a total of 371,388 army personnel deployed at 85,000 polling stations as a precautionary security measure Polling ends at 6pm, after which polling staff will begin the vote count. Aljazeera Hamas says it launched rockets and mortars in response to Israeli wave of strikes, which also wounded 14 Palestinians. Domestic Violence Against Women’s

Domestic violence is an endemic social problem in Pakistan. According to a report, nearly 70 to 90 percent of women are suffering from many forms of abuses. In Pakistan more than 5000 women are being killed per year due to the domestic violence and thousands of women have been injured badly. Approximately 97% of women were interviewed and told that they have been the victim of some kinds of assaults, ranging from verbal abuses or threatened to be subjected to beating or non-consensual sex. It is painful to mention that 12 years old girls are being killed by their own fathers and brothers. Different reasons are linked with domestic violence in Pakistan such as, poverty, illiteracy and social taboos. In Islamabad nearly 4,000 women had been attacked during the period of eight years in which 30 percent were pregnant. So about four women are killed in this manner every day.
